Just wondering if anyone has any pointers to share….. My sister has a foster dog, that was pulled last week from Safe Harbor. Mick, a GSP, is heartworm + and had his treatments this week, so there’s that. He is about 5 yrs old and spent his life in an outside kennel, used only to hunt. He has obviously been trained strictly. If you make a kiss sound, call his name, he runs over and throws himself down in front of you in a submissive pose, shaking. And we kiss him and pet him and show him love. But we don’t want that kind of reaction from him. We pet and stroke him and praise him in every position, of course. This is a dog that has only known “watching” all his life. Watching out his kennel at life around him. He is really most comfortable standing watch at the patio door. Even on the hunt, he is pointer, not a hunter. He wants to take us and show us, while on a leash. This is not so much a training request. The kid needs to recover from heartworm treatment and we will be more than happy. This is a request for ideas on making him comfortable and loved.
