Justice Sotomayor was a very active questioner throughout the first half of Monday’s session, as was Justice Elena Kagan who followed up with the same line of inquiry. There are quite a number of medical treatments to which some religious groups object, Justice Kagan said. If corporations could object to providing coverage for those treatments “everything would be piecemeal. Nothing would be uniform,” she said. And, If corporations can object on religious grounds to providing contraception coverage, could they also object to vaccinations or blood transfusions?
