Juz 22 This Juz finishes the chapter begun in its predecessor, al-Ahzab (Confederates) and con¬cludes with the opening verses of the significant chapter of Ya-Seen. In closing al-Ahzab, Allah discusses propriety on the part of women, spelling out an image of the Last Day and completes the circle by mentioning the trust that man has undertaken. The chapter of Saba’ (Sheba) follows al-Ahzab with its depictions of scenes in the Hereafter where a disbeliever’s arguments and futile attempts at faith come too late for their salvation. The chapter also mentions Allah’s favor to Dawud (David) and Sulayman (Solomon) in order to encourage the Prophet – it refutes the charges against him and the disbelievers are again warned of the punishment that lies in store for them. In al-Fatir (Originator) we are presented with many of beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah such as His Omnipotence, His Might and His Wisdom – the One who knows all, who is aware of all, who sees all and who is free from all needs and wants. The final chapter of this Juz, Ya-Seen, begins by discussing the Qur’an and the Prophet’s call to the polytheists. • The Prophet’s relationship with his wives is mentioned and they are enjoined to remain at home and so are other believing women of his Ummah. • The excellence of the Prophet’s family is mentioned as well as the excellence of the believers in general. • A sketch of a Muslim society has been presented regarding how Muslims should be: “Indeed the Muslim men and the Muslim women, and the believing men and the believing women, and the devoutly obedient men and the devoutly obedient women, and the truthful men and the truthful women, and the patient men and the patient women, and the reverent men and the reverent women, and the charitable men and the charitable women, and the fasting men and the fasting women, and the men who guard their chastity, and the women who guard (theirs), and the men who remember Allah much, and the women who (likewise) remember (Him) - for these Allah has prepared forgiveness and a magnificent reward.” (33:35) • Some of the rules relating to divorce have been given. • Verse 36 is about placing complete trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and in the Sunnah of our Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. All matters are to be judged by these two standards. There is also an authentic hadeeth where RasulAllah had said that if you hold on to the Quran and my sunnah, then you will not go astray. This certainly requires deep Taqwah. • Verse 59 is a very important verse for Muslim women. It is the instruction about Hijab. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala states that is is an honor and a protection for Muslim women. This over garment (jilbab) will allow others to see them as virtuous women and they will not be harassed. Hijab for the Muslim woman has been linked to submitting to Allah, as indeed all actions of a believer are. • Surah Saba mentions the gracious dwellings of the prosperous people of Sheba in Yemen. Due to their persistent denial of Allah’s blessings, He punished them by causing the great Arim Dam to break. It completely drowned their spectacular parallel orchards. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala once again reminds us that arrogance and thanklessness are Shaytanic traits. Following his evil advice will also take us to Hell. We are encouraged to look around us for all of His blessings and thank Him appropriately. • Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has created many beings. One of His great creation are the angels. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala mentions that the angels are His messengers with wings, two , three, and four fold. He also increases the number of wings according to His Divine Will. Prophet Muhammad saw angel Jibreel in Mairaj in his original form. He had 600 wings. • In verses 15, 16, and 17, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala issues a severe warning to humanity about rejecting Him and His blessings: “O humankind! It is you who are poor, (utterly) in need of Allah. And it is Allah (Alone) who is Self Sufficient, the All-Praised. If ever He so wills, He shall do away with (all of) you and bring about a new creation. And that is for Allah not difficult.” • In Surah Ya-Seen, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala tells us a story about a town (Antioch) where He has send three Messengers. The people were idol worshippers. They were ridiculed and mocked. During one of the Dawah sessions that was going poorly, a man came from farthest part of the town. He also tried to convince the people about the Oneness of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. He was killed by the mob. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala entered him into Jannah right away. Those killers and the others in town were struck with Allah’s punishment and disappeared from the face of this world. The martyred man was a Wali or a Friend of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. We should always treat all people with honor and respect since we really do not know who is a Wali of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
