Juz 8 Focuses on Ayah 151 of Surah Al-Anaam. It starts off with Allah telling Muhammad (saw) to command the people of what is impermissible for them. So the Ayah begins with things that are prohibited. 1) That you don’t do shirk with Allah 2) Don’t kill children because of bankruptcy 3) Stay away from all forms of shamelessness and indecency 4) Don’t kill a person without justification However, in the middle of all these prohibition, Allah says “Be the best you can be towards your parents”. Everything leading up to this point were all prohibitions. However, the part about being good to parents is a command by Allah! This is rhetorically very powerful because Allah is saying anything short of the best to your parents, you shouldn’t do! Allah uses the word “Ihsan” which means perfection. Also there is actually no commandment in Islam where if you don’t do an action to its very best, you will be sinful for it. Except for the treatment of your parents. For example, if you don’t have perfection in your prayer, you’re not sinful. You should work towards perfection but you won’t really be sinful. If you don’t have perfection in the way you speak to people, you’re not sinful. You could improve in the way you speak but it’s not considered a sin. However, when it comes to dealing with parents, Allah says to be the best. Anything short of the best, you can be sinful for it. But to be the best in what exactly?? Allah didn’t specify. Which means that everything should be done to its best! Whether it’s your speech, your thought, your patience, attitude, body language, gifts or your time.. They should get the very best from you!
