K N S Dinbhar Union Petroleum ministry reduces kerosene quota to Kashmir From 48.48 lakh litres valley will get only 30 lakh litres now Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): As Kashmir is still recovering from the shock of devastating floods that hit in September last year, Union Petroleum Ministry has reduced the quota of kerosene to Valley by 18.48 lakh per month giving another worry to people in chilly winters. Sources told KNS that till now Valley was getting 48.48 lakh litres per month allocation in two blocks of October-December for winters and January-Marc for summer months. The allocation was as per 2008 decision. According to 2011 census there are 10 lakh ration card holders in Kashmir Valley and according per ration card was getting 4.48 litres of kerosene on an average per month which the dealers and consumers say is just 33 percent of the actually requirement. However, to make the things worse, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas vide Order No: P-21016/41/2012-Dist dated 31 December 2014 has cut the already deficit quota from 48.48 lakh litre to 30 lakh litres. Now, according to the new allocation, per ration card holder will get on an average three litres of kerosene per month. Commissioner Secretary Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Bashir Ahmad Khan told KNS that they have taken up the issue with the concerned authorities in the centre. He confirmed that there is shortage of kerosene this month but last month they gave double quota to consumers. Coordination Committee Retail Kerosene Oil Dealers alleged that Kashmir was being discriminated in the allocations. “It is a new year gift from the centre government to Kashmiris. While there is already shortage of LPG and electricity in this chilly winter, the reduction in kerosene quota will make the things worse,” they told KNS. They said livelihood of 4000 people on retail depots is solely dependent on it. “We feed our families when we earn meager amount from selling kerosene. When government will reduce the already deficit quota it will make things worse for us,” they said. Govt formation: PDP drops hints it could go with BJP If we go with Congress or NC can we solve issues which are in domain of central govt: Akhtar Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): As suspense over the formation of new government continued in Jammu and Kashmir for the 13th consecutive day, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sunday dropped hints that it could go with BJP for the formation of stable government but without compromising on the party’s stated position. PDP chief spokesman Nayeem Akhtar told KNS that if only government formation would have been an issue they could have aligned with any party be Congress, BJP or even National Conference. “But the question is if we go with Congress or NC can we solve the issues which are in the domain of central government.” Elaborating he said, “Reconciliation, dialogue, cross LoC trade, revocation of AFSPA and return of power projects are some of the basic issues which PDP has promised to people of the state they will fulfill once we come to power. We could have forgotten what NC and Congress did with people of the state in last six year and inspite of their defeat we could have formed alliance with them. But is it possible to solve these issues if we go with Congress and NC.” “Can we get back even one power project from the center if we go with NC or Congress,” Akhtar asked. He said rehabilitation of flood victims needs Rs 50 thousand crore. “Can we get it if we go with NC or Congress,” he added. However, the PDP chief spokesman asserted that his party will never make any compromise with regional aspirations. “We won’t make any compromise with interests of people of the state at any cost. On prestige and dignity we won’t make any compromise,” he vowed. Akhtar said that informal contacts on government formation with BJP were on. “But I can’t say when and if formal talks will start. Government formation isn’t an issue but we have to see whether we can deliver after the formation of the government,” he added. Govt formation: State BJP leadership to brief party high command in Delhi Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): A high level delegation of state Unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) headed by MP Jugal Kishor Sharma left for New Delhi from Jammu to brief the party high command about political stalemate in the state which continued for 13th consecutive day on Sunday in the backdrop of fracture mandate. Sources told KNS that Sharma will be accompanied by senior party leaders Dr Nirmal Singh, Ashok Khujuria, Shamsheer Singh and few others will give their view on the formation of new government to the party high command. “The formal talks with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will only start after the state leaders give their view point to the high command. After that a high level BJP delegation headed by party general secretary Ram Madhav will arrive in J&K for the final discussion with the PDP leadership,” they added. When contacted Jugal Kishor confirmed to KNS that they were meeting the high command on Monday in New Delhi. “We will brief the command and put our opinion before them. The final decision lies with the high command,” he said. Shah pays tributes to Sopore martyrs Calls for shutdown in town on Jan 6 Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir leader and chairman Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah Sunday paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Sopore massacre and has called for a shutdown in the apple town on January 6. We can never forget those 55 innocent people who were massacred by Indian forces on January 6, 1993. They sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of freedom and our hearts will always remember them, Shah in a statement to KNS. Praying for Sopore martyrs, he said, “Forces by perpetrating the massacres like Sopore, Gawkadal, Handwara, Kupwara, Hawal, Shopian, Mashali Mohalla, Bihbehara, Hazratbal and others make it clear that they are not bound by any law and are not accountable to their crimes.” Appealing international human rights organizations and United Nations to initiate probes in such massacres, Shah said, “UN should hold India accountable for its grave human rights violations in Kashmir and should pressurize it to let the people of Kashmir decide their political future.” Meanwhile, Shah expressed condolence with Sheikh Zameer on the sad demise of his mother in law. Shah, yesterday, along with general secretary Moulana Mohammad Abdullah Taari, Altaf Ahmad Raja, Feroz Ahmad and others visited the residence of deceased and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. They also prayed for heavenly abode of deceased and strength for family to bear the irreparable loss. UN resolutions legal basis of Kashmiri’s struggle: Nayeem Khan Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): Terming the United Nations resolutions about Kashmir including that of January 5, 1948 as the legal basis of Kashmiri’s struggle, National Front Chairman and Hurriyat (JK) leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan Sunday said that Kashmiri people should exhibit steadfastness in their resistance movement. In a statement to KNS Khan while addressing party office bearers in a meeting convened to deliberate and discuss on the UN resolutions about Kashmir dispute said, “In order to grab the attention of the international organizations like United Nations it is of utter importance for Kashmiris to stand firm and do not fell prey to those who work for the Indian agenda. Kashmiris are fully aware that they are on a just path but New Delhi is busy in false propaganda to malign the resistance movement of Kashmiris.” “The Himalayan proof about the disputed nature of Jammu Kashmir is that today the whole world is talking of the UN resolutions about it,” he said adding “the Indian propaganda against our just struggle is sure to fail if we stand firm and exhibit commitment.” “Our prophet (SAW) is the best torch bearer of steadfastness and truthfulness,” Khan said and while referring to the life of holy Prophet Mohammad (SAW) he said that He (SAW) exhibited matchless steadfastness and sincerity while preaching Islam so we Muslims have to follow Prophet’s (SAW) life so as to achieve worldly and hereafter benefits. “Our Prophet (SAW) has taught us to remain persistent and determined so we Kashmiris have special lessons in the holly life of the prophet Mohammad (SAW),” Khan said. He elaborated and said, “Our Kalima is one, our Prophet is one, our book (Quran) is one and our religion is one so we should stand united.” He added “This is the message for us in the pious life of prophet Mohammad (SAW).” UN, world power showing dual standards on Kashmir: Salah-ud-Din Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): United Jihad Council (UJC) chief and Hizb-ul-Muajhideen supremo Syed Salah-ud-Din Sunday said though United Nations resolutions on Kashmir issue were still relevant, to break New Delhi’s “stubborn approach” and to solve the Kashmir “armed struggle will continue.” In an emailed statement to KNS UJC spokesman Syed Sadaqat Hussain quoting Salah-ud-Din’s address to a high level meeting of UJC leadership in Muzaffarabad, said, “In the last 66 years Indian forces have made the lives of Kashmiris hell and have martyred more than five lakh people, rendered lakhs homeless and buried thousands in nameless graves. The spree of killings and destruction continues till date.” Expressing surprise and regret over the silence of UN, he said, “People of South Sudan, East Timor and Scotland have been given their right due to UN intervention but 1.30 crore people of Jammu and Kashmir are being denied their birth right and UN is silent over it. The UN and world power are showing dual standards on Kashmir which is unfortunate.” The UJC chief vowed that only resolution and talks can’t give Kashmiris right to self determination and “full fledged armed struggle has become inevitable to achieve it.” “New Delhi doesn’t understand the language of peace and it has made whole Kashmir a jail to strengthen its occupation. Every day in the name of tunnels and trains it is strengthening its occupation.” “But unfortunately some people were still repeating that so-called talks can solve the issue,” Salah-ud-Din added. He appealed Pakistani people and its leadership to support Kashmiris and “not get influenced by New Delhi’s so-called bilateral talks rhetoric.” Darul Khair extends medical camp by 1-day Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): In connection with Eid Milad Un Nabi (SAW) Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil has organized four days medical camp at Hazratbal under the direction of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Hundreds of patients were treated by the doctors and medicines worth thousands of rupees was distributed to the needy during the cmap, a spokesman of the organisation said. On the demand of people the Darul Khair has extended the camp by one day and the patients will be treated on Friday also. Amirakadal development my priority: Zeeshan Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) senior leader and District president Zeeshan Pandith today distributed relief among scores of flood affected families of Amirakadal constituency and other areas. While distributing the relief he reaffirmed his resolve that working for the overall welfare and betterment of Amirakadal was always his priority number one and would continue to be his top priority. In a statement to KNS Pandith said, “PDP and NC should not ponder or worry about the consequences of electoral results in next elections rather ponder upon the current state of Kashmir people. AIP is always committed to work for better future of people of Kashmir and its cadre are always available for the service of people of state.” He made it clear that every major political party has to respect mandate of people and keep in mind that no policy paralysis takes place. “When thinking of alliance with BJP the NC and PDP should keep in mind the communal policies followed by BJP from the poisonous ‘Ghar Wapsi’ to making Gita mandatory for students in Haryana schools and other related communal steps,” the AIP leader added. Army organizes Bandipora Premier League Bandipora, Jan 4 (KNS): In an ongoing initiative of promoting sportsmanshipamongst the youth of Bandipora, Premier League has been organised under the aegis of Chinar Corps alongwith Board of Sher-i- Kashmir Stadium. A defence spokesman said the tournament is being played at picturesque Sher i - Kashmir Stadium which is located in the heart of the town. The league will see 16 teams playing 18 matches from January 4 to 15. “A grand opening ceremony of the league was held on Sunday which was attended by players of all 16 teams, officers of Army, CRPF, JKP and officials from district administration including DC Bandipora Dr. Shah Faisal. While tossing the coin for the opening match Faisal appreciated the role of Army in its commitment towards ensuring security in the region. He also thanked the Army for the initiative in organising the league. He wished good luck to all youngsters and asked them to play the game in true spirit of sportsmanship,” the statement said.
