#K2 2014 – Summit Push. Adrian and the team have safely reached Camp 2 at 6600m after two days of climbing from Base Camp. This is this the second day of the five day ascent to the summit. He reports that yesterday was very hard with deep, soft, sugary snow, no wind at all and debilitating heat that almost had him down to shorts and no shirt! Todays conditions are much better and he is fit and strong. From Camp 2 the climb becomes more challenging, technical and of course, dangerous. Tomorrow he and the team head to Camp 3 at 7,350m which includes the 400m near-vertical Black Pyramid. 2014 is the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of K2 by Italians Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli, who summited on 31 July 1954. Since then only 330 climbers have reached its lofty summit, including just seven Britons. This year there is a strong Italian presence amongst the seven teams attempting the mountain.
