KA Leisure bosses have dismissed suggestions they are “knocking business back” after the Magnum Leisure Centre lost out on hosting a prestigious darts event. World champion Michael van Gerwen is set to join five-times world champion Raymond van Barneveld, along with darts stars Robert Thornton and Vincent van der Voort, at ‘The Glasgow Masters’ on April 26 at the On-X Leisure Centre in Linwood. However, promoters of the event – which is set to draw around 1000 darts fans – initially wanted to host the tournament in Irvine, which could have seen tens of thousands of pounds pumped into the local economy at a time when economic development sits top of the agenda for North Ayrshire Council and partnership organisations.
