KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS.SYNDICATED, ENGLISH. 06 JULY 2013 “More votes than voters” also in other MM cities LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes…” (Deuteronomy 30:2-3, the Holy Bible). -ooo- DID LAWMAKERS RECEIVE DONATIONS FROM MONOPOLIES? The claim of two senators that they will keep “watchful eyes” on existing monopolies on water and other utilities providing basic services to Filipinos is a bit amusing to me. Indeed, without intending to belittle the attempt to monitor these monopolies by Senators Francis Escudero and Vicente Sotto III, may I ask: how can two senators alone make a difference in championing the cause of abused consumers? Two votes in a collegial body of 24 will hardly make a dent, especially in passing legislation to curb abuses, unless the other senators would be willing to help. But then, supposing some of these colleagues received campaign donations from these monopolies in past elections? Will those who received donations from the monopolies be as eager to investigate their alleged abuses? I guess that the only way that Escudero and Sotto can really help consumers to jumpstart their fight against abuses by monopolies is to expose the extent of the monopolies’ influence among lawmakers, by compelling them---the monopolies, I mean---to disclose who they supported and how much they contributed to each and every lawmaker in all the elections participated in by them in the past. -ooo- WHAT DOES “WEALTH SHARING” MEAN? Pardon my ignorance, but can chief government peace negotiator Miriam Coronel Ferrer explain the Constitutional and statutory bases for entering into a “wealth-sharing” agreement with known rebel groups, like the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), in recent developments? I mean, is there a law that justifies a duly-constituted and sovereign entity like the government of the Republic of the Philippines to be sharing the natural resources of the country which, under the so-called regalian doctrine in political law, all belong exclusively to the State or to the Republic? Would not sharing the wealth and natural resources of the country amount to giving up its sovereignty? And while we are raising these questions, can Ms. Ferrer explain what do they mean when they say “wealth sharing” with the MILF? -ooo- “MORE VOTES THAN VOTERS” HAUNT OTHER METRO MANILA CITIES: At a press conference Friday, July 05, 2013, that tackled the petition I filed for a group of Pasay City residents seeking a declaration of failure of elections in the city on account of clearly manipulated and padded election results which came from the very precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines that were used there last May 13, 2013, it appeared to everyone present that the same manipulation and padded results happened in other cities and municipalities, too. One of the reporters present during the press conference told me that in a town in Cavite which is geographically very near Metro Manila, a candidate also noticed that the total number of votes credited for all the candidates in a single-official position exceeded the total number of ballots that the PCOS machines counted, just like what happened in Pasay City. Then, information also reached us that other cities in Metro Manila experienced the same phenomenon, except that the losing candidates are no longer interested to complain, either for fear of possible reprisals from the Commission on Elections or from other government officials who are interested to uphold the accuracy of the elections, or simply because they have started preparing for 2016, having learned their lessons from 2013. -ooo- IF RP IS “TROUBLEMAKER”, WHAT SHALL WE CALL CHINA? If the Philippines is a “troublemaker” because it is pursuing its ownership of the islands located at the West Philippine Sea, what should we call China with its insistence on deploying warships in the area---a “peacemaker” out to maintain peace and order in the troubled region, such that it is driving away other claimants by the sheer strength of its naval forces? I am sure that China’s provocations will one day boomerang, not only on its officials, but even against its nationals in the Philippines. -ooo- REACTIONS?
