KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS.SYNDICATED, ENGLISH. 06 MARCH 2014 Poverty is not just a matter of economics… LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth…” (Proverbs 10:4, the Bible). -ooo- POVERTY IS NOT JUST A MATTER OF ECONOMICS: I agree with Edwin Lacierda, presidential spokesman, that poverty among Filipinos is not going to be eliminated when President Aquino steps down from Malacanang in 2016. Poverty will continue to be with our people notwithstanding claims of economic growth, either because of the economic policies of the Aquino government or of its immediate predecessor, the Arroyo government. Why? Because there is something lacking in all these economic thrusts. Our government leaders and their economic teams do not seem to realize that poverty is not just a matter of economics but also of spirituality. Either our leaders are simply and plainly ignorant of the connection between spirituality and economic growth, or that they are aware of it but are unwilling, for one reason or another, to recognize that connection. And that is where the problem lies, really. Even if the government pours in trillions of pesos in projects seeking to eliminate poverty, and even if economic growth is reported to be on the upswing every year, as what had been happening repeatedly in the past, poverty will continue to stalk our people, unless the spiritual angle of poverty is addressed. -ooo- SPIRITUAL ANGLE OF POVERTY: What is this spiritual angle of poverty that must be addressed? It is actually very simple. Our people must be made to understand, by sustained and persistent efforts, that it is God who gives anyone the ability to gain wealth. Without God, no one can hope to achieve economic success, as what Deuteronomy 8:18 of the Bible is saying. Then, Filipinos must be made to realize that God loves us ever so dearly He gave Himself and came to earth in the form of a human being just so our sins can be forgiven, give an assurance that we will never perish and will in fact have an eternal life in His presence, as John 3:16 is saying. -ooo- THE PLAN IS TO PROSPER US, MAKE US WEALTHY: We must also accept that God’s plan is to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11), and He will grant us success and victory just as He promised (in Joshua 1:8), because He is a God who is true to His word (Numbers 23:19) and who delights in making us rich and successful (Deuteronomy 28:63) all our lives. Now, what must we do to receive all of God’s blessings, protection and guidance? Jesus Christ, our God and Savior says we should seek Him first, live according to His commands, and all the things we need shall come to us (Matthew 6:33). Then, we must read the Bible daily, meditate on it day and night and obey it all the time, so we can be successful and victorious (Joshua 1:8). -ooo- BIR TARGET COLLECTIONS HIKED: From Mon Quin in Zamboanga City: “The Revenue Region 15 of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has been tasked to collect around P5.4 billion in taxes for 2014, which represents 22.8 percent increase over its 2013 actual collections of P4.4 billion, according to Cresencio Agad, the chief of Revenue District Office (RDO) 93-A. “Agad said that his district alone is tasked to collect 45.32 percent of the total target revenue collections for Region 15. He also reported that RDO 91 was tasked to collect P1.2 Billion or 22.12 percent of the target collection, while Pagadian City RDO-92 was also mandated to collect P.9Million, and Dipolog City RDO-91 at P.9 Million or 16.18 percent.” -ooo- REACTIONS?
