KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS.SYNDICATED, ENGLISH. 10 JUNE 2014 Pork row: grand design to abolish Congress? LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…`Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?’…” (Genesis 41:38, the Holy Bible). -ooo- BONG’S SPEECH A ROUSING PR SUCCESS: The privilege cum farewell speech of Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. last Monday, June 09, 2014, was a rousing public relations coup, alright, notwithstanding the attempts of Malacanang to downplay its effect on projecting Revilla as an underdog among the greater number of poor Filipinos. That speech undeniably projected two things: first, that Sen. Revilla is being politically persecuted by the Aquino government even if he is innocent of the charges against him in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam, thus endearing himself to the masses all the more as an “underdog”, and, second, that President Aquino is actually a big failure as a chief executive. Whoever was behind that speech certainly knew his game, especially the game of protecting Bong from the pernicious trial by publicity that is being ferociously waged against him now by forces which, obviously, do not want him, and his Lakas party, to win the presidency of this country in 2016, since a Revilla and Lakas victory would give rise to a government that will also mercilessly run after those in power now. -ooo- PROBLEMS PNOY HAD NOT FOCUSED ON: There is no mistaking about what Revilla thought about the pork charges against him, with the following parts of his speech, translated from Filipino: “Mr. President, I already said this before: my conscience is clear. Now that the cases against us have been filed, allow us to face our accusers in court. Let us allow the court to do its job, where we can defend ourselves.” On his assessment of the President’s discharge of his functions, Revilla said there are just too many problems of the country that President Aquino had not focused on, particularly the basic needs and concerns of the Filipino people. He enumerated these needs and concerns that have not been sufficiently addressed: the lack of sufficient and satisfactory employment, which is causing widespread hunger and poverty; the lack of a sufficient and satisfactory help and assistance to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda; heightened criminality where the police must be mobilized to be more responsive. -ooo- PORK ROW: GRAND DESIGN TO ABOLISH CONGRESS? Revilla also called for the following: immediate rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport so that it could provide better service, and become an instrument of tourism promotion; better medical help especially in government hospitals, side by side with making medicine available to the sick; more appropriate response to the looming national crisis on power and energy lack. The senator also called for more aggressive efforts to address our countrymen’s basic needs such as education, social services, and food security. Then, he gave Aquino this advice: “Lead this country not with hatred but with love. Lead the country towards unity and not partisanship. Push our nation’s interest and agenda.” He then expressed the hope that the pork barrel scam is not a part of a grand design to discredit Congress as an institution and remove the people’s trust in it, and thereby pave the way for its abolition through an amendment of the Constitution. -ooo- REMINDERS: Please tune in: “Tambalang Batas at Somintac sa DZEC”, at 1062 kHz on the AM band, Mondays to Fridays, at 6 a.m., simulcast, real time, over eaglenews.ph; “Kakampi Mo Ang Batas sa Radyo Trabungko FM”, at 103.7 mHz in Don Carlos, Bukidnon, Mondays to Fridays, at 7 a.m.; and “Kakampi Mo Ang Batas sa DYKA” at 801 kHz on the AM band (Panay Island), Mondays to Fridays, at 10 a.m.
