KANDEH YUMKELLA - THE SNAKE OIL Wow, and Fran never ceases to remind us that he is a founding and core member of the peace movement in SLPP! No wonder the whole peace enterprise has been such a time-wastng charade. You can’t be a jackboot impaler and a peace envoy at the same time. The KKY Movement is laboring under several massive delusions. First, that Bio is their only serious competitor for the SLPP flag-bearer race. Clever but not true; others will make them learn this fact on the ground if not in cyber noise boxes. Second, that Kandeh is a peerless Messiah for our party and the nation on account of his UN and Kambia District DNA. This is snake oil because we have had a UN-Kambia District magician before whose negative service record in SL we ignored and when all was said and done, our party was left bankrupt and the nation was left without electricity. He didn’t lack the vision thing which Kandeh also has a truck load of; what he lacked was the absence of ethnic nepotism (80% of his ambassadorial appointments were from his ethnic kinsfolk), the humility to listen because as a UN alum he knew it all and the capacity to execute in critical sectors of our economy. The lack of electricity cost SLPP the 2007 election in the Western Area, compounded by the fact that Kabbah’s two terms put a lot of money in the pockets of those who financed APC to power. The KKY Movement would counter with another snake-oil they have been selling us that KKY is an energy expert. No, he is not an energy expert; he is a climate change-energy access story-telling expert. Again vision not capacity to execute. The real energy experts who develop energy policy and technology as well as build energy projects with scale reside in the US and European colleges and research institutions and in international energy companies. Don’t get me wrong Kandeh has performed spectacularly in his UN role but that performance is not easily converted to running a poor country well. He arrogantly quipped that he had advised China so how difficult would it be to run SL?Apples and oranges, young man. I hope our man is not implying that he advised China to industrialization Hey, KKY Movement, China actually had Deng Xiaoping before Kandeh joined the UN and they happened to have been ruled predominantly by engineers who understand how to build a manufacturing economy. You guys have to chill on the snake oil peddling. Kandeh is a brilliant man with a great resume and a world platform. That does not make his experience the only valid one in SLPP or SL. He is in competition with many others tay go. Please concentrate on building peace in the party. From another forum
