#KAP Katter Australian Party press release: Local business owner Steve Isles was pleased to announce his endorsement by Katter’s Australian Party for the upcoming state election at a press conference on Tuesday. Speaking at the Burdekin PCYC which his father, Queensland Police Senior Sergeant Michael Isles helped establish, Mr Isles said he hoped to symbolise the conviction his family shares with the Burdekin. Im driven by a passion for people and a passion for community, he said. “From participating in night military exercises in Bowen, to being involved in the extensive searches after the disappearance of Rachel Antonio, to being with the people of the Burdekin Electorate through the disappearance of my father and sharing the joyous occasion of seeing my younger sister, Nicole, married by now retired Pastor Les Henaway - this is my home. Perviously a tradesman, police officer and more Mr Isles hopes his real world experience will assist him in making practical choices to benefit of the area, if chosen to represent Burdekin. “For far too long the Burdekin Electorate has been neglected by both major parties, yet the Burdekin houses some of the most sought after commodities and agriculture in Queensland,” he said. “We have heard many times talk of tapping Burdekin water supplies to prop south east Queensland. North Queensland needs to come first.” The candidate also hopes to place a particular focus on the asset sales proposed by the Newman Government. “We need to send the LNP a strong message that our assets are not for sale - 99 year leases are sales. Mutton dressed as lamb is still mutton.” “We are in a tough economy where we need to focus on job creation and strategically planning for a sustainable future,” People are telling me how tough they are doing and how job security, insurance and electricity prices are taking their toll.” Mr Isles said. “We, North Queenslanders, are resilient people - Tough times don’t last, tough people do”. Mr Isles is the seventh candidate to be endorsed by KAP in the lead up to the QLD State election. The candidates are part of a growing force in regional Queensland, joining KAP MPs member for Mt Isa Rob Katter, Member for Condamine Ray Hopper and Member for Dalrymple Shane Knuth in the fight for real representation.
