KARACHI: The participation of Mohammad Asif, the reigning world champion, and Mohammad Majid Ali, who finished runner-up in the Asian Under-21 Championship, in the 6-Reds World Snooker Championship 2013 to be staged in Bangkok, Thailand, in September, has been approved by the Executive Committee meeting of the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Federation (PBSF). The well-attended meeting, held here at the Karachi Club Annexe the other day, was jointly chaired by Ali Asghar Valika and Alamgir Anwar Shaikh, Chairman and President of the PBSF, respectively. It was also decided to send Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad in the IBSF World 6-Reds and World Team Championship 2013 due to take place in Carlow, Ireland, from September 29 to October 6. The meeting also granted the approval for the establishment of a snooker academy in Faisalabad after being briefed by the President that the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, has agreed to provide the PBSF a snooker hall with proper air-conditioning facility in their campus for this purpose. An agreement in this regard would be signed on August 15. The President informed the Executive Committee that the construction of the boundary wall and gate at the PBSF/Sindh Snooker Academy in Karachi has been completed and an application has been moved for the topographical survey and sub-soil investigation of the plot to be needed for submission to the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA). The Executive Committee received the report from the President PBSF, who had accompanied the team to China for the recently concluded World Under-21 Snooker Championship 2013. The President felt that the performance of the cueists was satisfactory in view of the fact that two of them were making their international debut. The President said that he was highly impressed to visit the WPBSA China Snooker Academy in Beijing where all the matches were played. He also had a meeting with the Dean of the Academy, wherein he discussed the possibilities of sending four cueists from Pakistan to acquire training for a month early next year. The committee also finalized that the 5th NBP Ranking Snooker Championship 2013 will be held at the NBP Sports Complex from August 21 to 27, the Jubilee Insurance 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship 2013 will be held from September 15 to 30 and the Langnese 4th Ranking Snooker Cup will be organised during the last week of October.
