KARBALA: Millions of Shia pilgrims have descended on the Iraqi city of Karbala for one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Arbaeen commemorates the death of Imam Hussein, the most prominent figure in Shia Islam. Despite widespread political turmoil across Iraq, the countrys Defense Minister said that more than 17 million pilgrims had reached the city by Thursday.
