KAREN LYNNE – A LIFE IN MUSIC – Part 4 2004 returned Karen to the world of classic country with the release of her fourth album ‘Second Wind’ and a return to a straight Country music format. This album - most surprisingly edged into some mainstream country with tracks such as Rodney Crowell’s ‘This Man I Love’ and the Kim Richey/Al Anderson penned “Heart of a heartache” but there was still plenty of traditional country to keep her long time supporters happy. There were a variety of styles and a good balance of tempos from the very traditional - almost bush ballad sound of ”The Outback’s Been Getting the Rain” (penned by Pat Drummond), to the strong contemporary feel of “This Man I Love”. From the gentle acoustic, almost bluegrass feel of the title track “Second Wind” to the more retro country swing of “I’ll Just Pretend”, a song that you’d swear came from the long lost era of Patsy Cline and such singers with that famous country cry in their voices. Produced by Herm Kovac, it contained 14 tracks; five Australian - three of which were co-writes, along with a number of previously unreleased covers. Most tracks were solo efforts but male vocals were added on two tracks from Australian singer/songwriter Grant Richardson and traditional roots music singer/instrumentalist Bill Chambers. It was an album with a warmth, richness and maturity that showcased Karen at her "country best" to date. Once again the album contained a healthy share of Australian penned songs including a choice few from Karen’s own hand - co-writes with previous collaborator Heather Field and also with Mark Selby, Ashley Gorley and Keith Anderson. ‘Second Wind’ was a beautiful Country album which achieved 2 Major Award wins, 11 Major Award Nominations, two charting & three "Top 10" chart hits. Her first Video clip showcased the title track and was released late in 2005. The song, penned by Claire Lynch, was the album’s title track “Second Wind” and was a decidedly bluegrass flavoured track that recommends the reinvigoration of lost dreams and taking hold of precious second chances, something we all need to do at times in life. Karen got the chance around this time to tour again in the UK, and went on to complete it successfully late 2002. Whilst this album gave her high profile as an Independent artist, Karen’s love of Bluegrass however found her wanting more,… To Be Continued,....
