KENNEL COUGH Kennel cough is caught by dogs when they inhale - TopicsExpress

KENNEL COUGH Kennel cough is caught by dogs when they inhale bacteria or virus particles that enter the respiratory tract. Normally this tract is lined with a mucus coating which traps infectious particles and protects the dog. However exposure to poorly ventilated and overcrowded kennels, cold temperatures, dust or cigarette smoke can weaken this protection which will make your dog prone to the kennel cough infection. Just like humans colds are caused by different viruses, kennel cough can also have many causes, but the most common is a bacterium called Bordetella bronchiseptica m. Vaccination is the safest way to protect your pet from this illness.
