KENNETH C. DICKEY CAMDEN……………..Kenneth Clifton Dickey, 87, of Camden, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Born in Lincolnville on May 17, 1926, he was the son of Clifton David and Marjorie Melinda (Roberts) Dickey. Ken was a Camden High School graduate Class of 1947 and the University of Maine Orono, Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Upon returning from the war, he went back to finish his high school education where he met his future wife, Prudence Grace Weaver. They were later married on November 11, 1949 in Camden. In 1951, rather than going into the insurance business, Ken joined his father-in-law, Harold Corthell, at Haskell and Corthell. In 1959, Ken became the President of the store. He was very proud of expanding the store from the Women’s Shop and The Men’s Shop to include The Shoe Hutch, The Ski Barn, The Denim Shop, The Junior Shop and The End Shop. He also ran The Ski Barn at the Camden Snow Bowl. Active in community and civic organizations, Ken had been a distinguished member of the Megunticook Golf Club since 1976; a 62 year member of Amity Masonic Lodge; Camden Outing Club where he was instrumental in organizing the volunteers who helped create the current Camden Snow Bowl; lifetime member of the Camden Businessmen Group; member and former President of the Camden Rockport Lincolnville Area Chamber of Commerce; member of Camden Rotary since 1951 and was a Paul Harris award recipient and former President from 1958-1959; founding member of the 9 Natives Hunting Club. Ken also served on the Board of Directors for the Camden Snow Bowl; the Camden Area YMCA; Vice Chairman of the Board of the Creators of SAD #28 School District; and in 1969 at the age of 43 became a Director of the Camden National Bank where he served until 1976. For over 35 years, Ken and Prudy spent their winter months in Venice, Florida. During the summer months, they loved cruising Penobscot Bay aboard their Carver, the “After 4”. They had a passion for traveling and one of their favorite areas was Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. He enjoyed skiing, hunting and fishing. He could always be found with a camera in hand. He loved to garden and he had one of the most perfectly moved lawns in town. In his earlier years, Ken decided to take up flying and obtained his private pilot’s license. The Dickey family wishes to express their gratitude to Ken’s caregivers for their kindness and compassion. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Prudence Weaver Dickey who died on August 24, 2010 and his daughter Jeanette Dickey Peasley who died in March 13, 1986. Surviving are his three children, David A. Dickey and his companion, Virginia Johns of Camden; William J. Dickey and his wife Liana of Lincolnville; Lynette D. O’Hara and her husband, Frank O’Hara, Jr. of Rockport; 12 grandchildren, Jason Peasley and his wife, Penny of Lincolnville; Benjamin Peasley of Denver, CO; Kristin Bumpus of Middletown, DE; Jessica Dickey of Portland; Katherine Dickey and her fiance Clay Tolman of Rockport, Elizabeth Dickey, of Camden; Jennifer D. Marines and her husband, Charles of Saco; Amber Dickey, Carissa Dickey, both of Lincolnville; Nicholas O’Hara and his wife, Lindsey of Hope; Frances O’Hara III of Rockport, Kenneth Casey O’Hara, of Rockland; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Julia and Jordan Peasley; Addison and Reagan Bumpus; Evan Marines; Jameson and Molly Grace O’Hara. Also surviving is his sister, Barbara Bryant Brown; nephew, John Bryant and his wife Victoria, all of Camden; niece, Sherry Terrio and her husband, Todd of Gray, and his very devoted canine companion, Chico. The Dickey family wishes to express their gratitude to Ken’s caregivers (Ken’s Girls) for their love, kindness and compassion Calling hours will be held 5-7pm, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. The Memorial Service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Camden Opera House with the Rev. Kevin Pleas officiating, followed by a reception at the Camden Snow Bowl .
