KENNY JACKETT RULES OUT ANY LOAN SIGNINGS Wolves today played down an injury scare to captain Sam Ricketts as Kenny Jackett ruled out any loan signings for at least a month. Ricketts, who played the full game for Wales in Friday’s 2-1 defeat to Macedonia, failed to train yesterday before tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Serbia at the Cardiff City Stadium because of a slight knee injury. But the problem isn’t serious and head coach Jackett is hopeful his skipper will be fit for Saturday’s visit of Swindon. “We haven’t heard yet. Sam was going to assess it yesterday in training,” said Jackett. “He felt his knee and his initial thoughts were that it will be OK. “He has a chance of being fit for their game tonight or for us on Saturday, depending on how things went yesterday. It would be a blow for us to miss him but we’ll see how it improves this week.” Jackett, meanwhile, has had a change of heart over loan signings after Bakary Sako and Kevin Doyle stayed put. Before the transfer window shut, he expressed a keenness to enter the loan window, which opens today. But he said: “No, we’re concentrating on the squad of players we have and working with them towards a very important section of games –Swindon, two local derbies against Walsall and Shrewsbury and then Sheffield United, who are one of the biggest sides in the division. For this crucial batch of four games, I’m really just concentrating on the players we have.” George Elokobi (hamstring) is at least a week away from contention, while fit-again Dave Edwards is set to make his comeback in the Under-21s at Middlesbrough next Monday after his foot injury. Hogan Ephraim, who has returned to QPR after a trial, could win a deal if Wolves are short of wide players. “We’re not looking to bring him in at present,” said Jackett. “But he has a lot of ability and if we need a wide player, we’ve had a good look at him.” Former Wolves winger Stephen Hunt is hoping to land a deal at Championship pace-setters Blackpool. The 32-year-old has been without a club since his Molineux deal expired in June. But Hunt trained with Paul Ince’s squad on Thursday and Friday and said: “I’ve had some decent offers and I’m just looking for the right one.”
