KENTUCKY, WE NEED YOUR HELP! It has been brought to our attention, that Pike County Animal Shelter is not vaccinating their animals upon intake. This is resulting in Parvo outbreaks, sick animals, and the death of several animals within their care. This is not only extremely dangerous to the animals in the shelter, causing the spread of disease, leading to death; it is preventing reputable rescues from pulling animals from Pike County Animal Shelter. Rescues cannot pull unvaccinated animals, as it would put all animals in their rescue at risk. Not only do we have information straight from the shelter manager, Lorie Goff, that they are not vaccinating animals upon intake, we also have several eye witness accounts in regards to the treatment of the animals at the Pike County Animal Shelter. According to several sources, the Pike County Animal Shelter dogs are not receiving adequate medical care, much of which is allegedly due to funding issues. However, what upset us greatly, was the knowledge that two unaltered dogs of opposite gender, were kenneled together, resulting the in the pregnancy of a female, while in the care of the shelter. There are also several eye witness accounts of a Border Collie pup, suffering horribly from worms, not being treated by the shelter. He is literally being eaten alive. We also have documentation, from the month of August, that a rescue was set to pull several Pike County Animal Shelter pups. However, they were not able to do so, as the pups all contracted Parvo and were allegedly killed by shelter staff. We believe this is a direct result of neglect on the part of the shelter, in regards to vaccinating animals upon intake.
