KEVAN COOK CLAIMS $1,000 TO WIN IMCA MODIFIED FEATURE -Ryan Jordan wins second Sportsman feature of 2013 Last Saturday night at the Skyline Raceway, the IMCA Modifieds took part in a 20 lap feature event that paid a cool $1,000 to win. Defending track champion Kevan Cook claimed th ebig money, just nosing out another former champion Chris Fleming for the win, his third of the season. Ryan Jordan turned in a strong drive to win his second Sportsman feature of 2013 . Earl Zimmer topped the Street Stock feature for his sixth win of 2013 while Buck Mills Jr. won his eighth Junkyard Dogs feature. Isaiah Forward won his fourth Junkyard Pups feature. The 25 lap Sportsman feature saw Alan Barker jump out to the early lead aboard the Nick Nye owned $6x as behind him there was plenty of racing going on. Current point leader Butch Green got caught up in an early jingle and had to restart from the rear of the field, but Green was on the charge back through the field. By the time the race reached the halfway point, Green had made his way back to second and he and Barker were locked in a titanic battle for the race lead. Over the second half of the event, the battle was on as Barker and Green raced hard for the lead. That battle would rage until just two laps remained in the event when the entire complexion of the event changed in a second. The battle for the lead got a little too intense as Barker and Green got together entering the third turn, taking both out of contention for the victory. The incident with Green and Barker opened the door for third running Ryan Jordan, who suddenly found himself in the lead with only two laps remaining in the event. Jordan was able to run off the final two circuits without incident to earn his second win of 2013. Andrew Ferguson recorded his best Skyline finish to date with a runner-up effort ahead of defending track champion Jim Rothwell. Nick Nye and Jim LaRock were fourth and fifth respectively. The IMCA Modified feature was the richest race of the season for the IMCA teams as a $1,000 top prize was offered for the winner of the event. Defending track champion Kevan Cook collected the thousand dollar top prize, but it was a hard-earned victory for Cook as he had to fight off a race-long challenge from Chris Fleming. The two spent the second half of the event locked in a tight battle that saw the two veterans spend a good portion of the event battling side by side. The outcome was not decided until the final turn of the final lap as the two charged side by side down the front stretch with Cook just nosing out Fleming at the line by about two feet. Fleming finished second to Cook in a terrific race. Invaders Eddie Sites and brother Brad Sites were third and fourth with Kevin Griffin rounding out the top five finishers. Current point leader Earl Zimmer turned in a dominating performance to pick up the win in the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Zimmer had his hands full throughout the feature as he had to deal with a determined challenge from Scott Smith. Smith kept the pressure on Zimmer throughout the vent, but could not find a way past and settled for a strong second place finish. Jake Fowlston outdueled Darryl Krebs to finish third with Krebs fourth. Jason Beebe rounded out the top five in only his second Skyline start of 2013.. Buck Mills Jr. topped the 15 lap Junkyard Dogs feature, his eighth win of the season at Skyline. Mills overcame an early race tangle to drive his way back through the field to take the win. Bill Flask finished second behind Mills, his best effort to date in 2013. Mitch Quail’s third place finish was also his best of the season. John Miller and Tyrone Scott were fourth and fifth respectively. Isaiah Forward won his fourth Junkyard Pups feature of the season. Isaiah ran down and passed early race leader Jim Wood to take control of the event. Forward led the rest of the way to score the win over Wood, who finished second. Trevor Dudley crossed the line third ahead of Keith Potter and Bobby Wagner. Next Saturday night features a big five division show with all of Skyline’s regular divisions in action. The Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups will all be in action. Also, a pair of Monster Trucks will be on hand and putting on a show of jumping, car crushing, and other action for the Skyline fans.
