KEY OVERNIGHT EBOLA DEVELOPMENTS IN WEST AFRICA 1. BBC has announced that the 2-year-old girl who was discovered infected with the Ebola virus in Keyes, western Mali 2 days ago after she returned from Kissidougou, Guinea has died from the virus. 2. Nigeria is nearly ready to send 250 healthcare personnel to the 3 Ebola Republics to help with containment efforts there as well as strengthen the healthcare capacity of each country for the long-term. They have been fully retrained for their mission in the Ebola republics but now await to be fully equipped. These 250 Nigerian healthcare personnel represent only the first group of 506 healthcare professionals that were selected from the 591 doctors and nurses who had volunteered earlier this month in Volunteer Enrollment Centers at Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja. (PUNCH newspaper, Lagos, Friday October 24). 3. Ebola cases in West Africa have now exceeded 10,000 with recorded deaths put at over 5,000. W.H.O. deems these totals as grossly under-stated. (BBC). 4. The World Bank President is requesting all nations of this word to send healthcare professionals to the 3 Ebola Republics to help fight the Ebola contagion. He pointed out that the shortage healthcare personnel shortages is the main factor driving the present unmanageable spread of the virus in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
