KIDS SAFE AFTER TRANSPORTATION INCIDENT Dear Community, In an effort to fill any void of factual information, Id like to inform you of an incident that occurred this morning while transporting elementary students to school on a school bus. To be clear, all kids are safe and at school. Please dispel any rumors with the following information. This morning, the driver of bus #4 smelled something that was not normal after the bus stalled at a bus stop along Hall Road. The driver immediately evacuated the bus and moved all children to a safe location according to established protocols and practiced emergency drill procedures. After successfully evacuating the bus, the driver checked the engine compartment and found smoke and small flames developing. The flame was immediately extinguished. Other buses were dispatched to transport the kids to school. The entire procedure was smooth and textbook, so to speak. Albeit, it made for an interesting morning. Kids were very well behaved and safe the entire time. Id like to thank and applaud the driver who acted decisively with sound judgement according to trained procedures. This is an example of how quality bus drivers make a difference for the safety of kids and why we practice emergency drills. Id also like to thank an unnamed passerby who stopped their personal vehicle to assist with extinguishing the flame and a neighbor who assisted with monitoring kids who were evacuated to a safe location. This is what is so great about this community! People always willing to help out in times of need. This afternoon, an alternate bus will be transporting the students who rode bus #4. It is comforting to know that we have people in this community and school district who do not hesitate to help others in need when circumstances require it. Thank you for all that you do. Keeping you informed. Tom Livezey Superintendent
