KIGALI (AFP) - Authorities in Rwanda said Thursday they have arrested two policemen on suspicion of murdering an anti-corruption activist who worked for the campaign group Transparency International.Gustave Makonene, a local coordinator for the international graft watchdog whose work included documenting allegations of police corruption, was found murdered in July last year. This time we have convincing evidence that we have really got the real suspects. That is why we can now be able to submit the case file to the prosecution, Theos Badege, the head of Rwandas criminal investigation department, told reporters. The two suspects, Isaac Ndabarinze and Nelson Iyakaremye, were briefly paraded in handcuffs. The detective said the activist appeared to have been killed for looking too closely at the corrupt activities of the two policemen. He said the two suspects, who were based in Rubavu in the west of the country, had been implicated in the illegal trafficking of conflict minerals from the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.Earlier this year Human Rights Watch condemned what it said was a disturbing silence in Rwanda over the murder, and accused police in the central African nation of foot-dragging.Dunya News Tv
