KILLING CULTURE!!! The Government is making yet another bad decision in adopting the “Carnival” brand and trying to sell Bahamians on why we should spend 9 million dollars in promoting an event and culture that is not our own. They are saying that the word Carnival was necessary to ensure sales internationally even though a recent US Today poll placed the brand “Junkanoo” ahead of Carnival as the preferred Caribbean event of choice by visitors. The reality is the Christie administration is not checking for local culture as they did not see the need to invest this amount in selling our Junkanoo brand overseas. Many now believe that this so called Junkanoo Carnival is intended to serve a serious fatal blow our already struggling cultural expression. Bahamians must take a stand against this sinister plan to wipe out our culture.
