KISS: Keep it simple, stupid. Talked at length with an old friend today whos been very unhappy with her life, feeling pulled in a lot of different directions. This is probably a common condition for the modern individual. But since time immemorial people have questioned how to live life. The irony is that many of us live as if no one has figured it out yet. But we know the answer; weve all know the answer all along. Eat well. Sleep well. Treat your self well. Treat other people like youd like to be treated. The golden rule has been around since antiquity and is remarkably universal - every major civilization and faith has recorded it. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_rule) We know the answer, but we choose to complicate our lives. I dont know why self-sabotage is so seductive, but it is. Many (most?) of us dont eat or sleep well. We dont treat ourselves or others as well as we should. But lets uncomplicate our lives by doing what we know we should. Lets make that our foundation, our baseline. Beyond that, lets say the Answer to The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is 42 (thanks Douglas Adams) or God or reason or the unknown itself. Great, weve got that figured out. Lets spend our precious lifes energy asking questions. Exploring the world. Searching for those ideas and connections and relationships that make life meaningful. Ive never been very religious. And Ive had a very colorful life so far with both extraordinary challenges as well as extraordinary fortune. But Ive always had a positive outlook to comfort me, because lifes not so complicated if we recognize that its simple. The Serenity Prayer begins, God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change / The courage to change the things I can / And wisdom to know the difference. I submit that we already have the wisdom, we just need to exercise our courage and unleash our serenity. #KISS #Serenity
