KLM Takes Steps in Sustainable Flights If you catch flight KL642 - TopicsExpress

KLM Takes Steps in Sustainable Flights If you catch flight KL642 from New York’s JFK airport to Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport on a Thursday you will travel in a Boeing 777-200 that is fueled by a mixture consisting of 75 percent jet fuel and 25 percent recycled cooking oil. The weekly bio-fueled flights are part of a joint venture launched by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Schiphol Group, Delta Air Lines, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to test the viability of sustainable bio-fuel in the aviation industry. According to KLM, the bio-fuels can cut down on CO2 emissions by up to 80 percent compared to traditional jet fuel. Currently the price of the recycled cooking oil re-purposed as jet fuel is approximately three times the price of the kerosene jet fuel but KLM and its partners are banking on prices coming down as more airlines decide to switch to more sustainable fuel nieuws.klm/klm-zet-stappen-richting-duurzame-vluchten-en/
