Bruce Peterson for Chairman of the Arapahoe County Republican Party 8 hrs · Hi, my name is Bruce Peterson, and I’m OLD SCHOOL, and proud of it. So, just what is old school? And conversely, what is new school, with all the fancy tweets, Facebooks, cloud communications, etc. I am Old School because I believe that the Precinct Committee Man and Woman (or any combination thereof) is the absolute backbone of our political system. This is where the rubber meets the road for all of our candidates, for all of the interaction with the voters in each precinct, and the link between our candidates and the voting public. The mechanism for success is the good old “shoe leather express,” which I define as walking the precinct, working the precinct and turning out the vote in the precinct. Old school means staying informed, being politically active and working for all Republican candidates precinct by precinct. It means working with the County organization and picking up and delivering all Republican literature before both the primary election and the general election…..and before that actively soliciting registered Republicans to attend the precinct caucus and help to make the choices of those who will represent you at the County Assembly and the State Assembly. Old School means being willing and able to interact with our candidates and help them at the grass roots level within the precinct. Perhaps its holding a coffee for a meet and greet. Perhaps its holding a precinct fundraiser for a state or local candidate. Old school means involvement in the political process, and working to achieve the best possible result for all of our Republican candidates whose names appear on the ballot. Old School means giving up personal time to do the job in the precinct. It also means giving up personal time to run the caucus, ensure attendance at the caucus, going to County, going to State, and if you are lucky enough, to go to a national convention. The Republican Party needs to have an old school ground game in order to with a large majority of the offices which our people seek. Yes we need great candidates like Mike Coffman and Cynthia Coffman who work incredibly hard, but we also need our precinct people, our district captains to do the same. The most basic old school key to winning is identifying and attracting an army of volunteers to help our precinct people in doing their jobs in the neighborhoods. Being a precinct leader is a lot of work, but if you have 10 or 20 precinct volunteers the work can be divided up and parceled out so no one has to do a backbreaking amount. This, working the precinct and establishing a volunteer cadre is vital to the success of our party and our candidates. Facebook and Twitter are nice but they cannot take the place of a solid, well organized ground game at the precinct level. Literature drops, knocking on doors, raising money and awareness, making precinct work and organization fun….this is old school and that is exactly what I believe we need to re-develop in Arapahoe County. It is my intention to make certain that everyone in the chain of command will be accountable and will be measured by the effort made and the results on election day. I pledge to be accountable to you, the members of this organization, and ask only that you help us to continue building our Republican Party here in Arapahoe County.
