KPA Unicon to supply biomass-fired heating plant to Imatra Imatran Lämpö Oy and KPA Unicon have signed a contract to deliver a biomass-fired heating plant to Virasjoki in Imatra, Finland. The new heating plant will significantly increase the Imatra Lämpö Oys share of renewable energy in district heat production. The heating plant will be used year-round as a base-load plant, and it will replace the use of natural gas for district heat production KPA Unicon´s turnkey-delivery includes all process equipment, buildings, installation work, commissioning and training of personnel, excluding foundation work. The plant will have an output of 30 MWth (2 x 15 MWth) and it will produce hot water for the district heating network. The plants will be fueled by locally sourced wood-based biomass, such as forest residues. The plant can also utilize peat as fuel. The contract also includes the flue gas condenser. The plant will be handed over to the customer in March 2016. The value of the order is approximately 10 million euros. In Imatra we need a cheaper, more cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel for the energy production to replace the natural gas-based district heating production. For Imatran Lämpö Oy, it is important that the new heating plant and district heating transmission line will be completed and are in production in the beginning of year 2016, says Vesa-Pekka Vainikka of Imatran Lämpö Oy. ”This boiler plant delivery to Imatra utilizes the advanced Unicon Biograte combustion technology, which enables the use of wide range of domestic local fuels with high energy efficiency. The parties have also agreed on a service contract which means better and easily forecasted service measures for the plant. It also helps maintain the plants high usability. The service contract covers support services during the heating season and inspections during shutdowns.
