KUWAIT CITY, March 17: The Public Prosecution on Monday resumed interrogation of an Ethiopian housemaid, accused of killing a 19-year-old Kuwaiti woman, identified as Seham Hummoud Al- Shimmari, in Sulaibikhat. The prosecution also ordered extension of the housemaid’s detention for further questioning. Judicial sources said the prosecution has charged the housemaid with premeditated murder, indicating the maximum penalty of which is death sentence. Sources confirmed the maid has admitted the crime, saying she stabbed the victim four times while she was sleeping in her room. In a related development, the incident caused fear among families with Ethiopian maids; up to the extent that a family residing in Al-Sulaibikhat called securitymen to settle a dispute between two housemaids — an Ethiopian and a Filipina, as the former locked herself in the room when she got infuriated. A source revealed the securitymen arrested the Ethiopian maid and detained her for further investigations. In the meantime, the incident has become a hot topic on various social networking sites as citizens have repeatedly called for the immediate deportation of Ethiopian housemaids; in addition to requiring domestic workers to undergo psychological and medical examinations regularly to protect the citizens and residents.
