KVs grapple with teacher shortage:- Berhampur: The five KendriyaVidyalayas functioning in Ganjam district are faced with acute staff shortage, affecting teaching. These schools are at Ambapua (Berhampur), Gopalpur, Aska, Bhanjanagar and Digapahandi. As many as 11 teaching posts are vacant in KV Berhampur against the sanctioned strength of 52 and there are 16 vacancies in Gopalpur against 36 posts. Similarly, six teacher posts each are vacant at Aska and Bhanjanagar and there are seven vacancies in Digapahandi. These three schools are supposed to have 13 teachers each. Also, there is not a single trained graduate teacher (TGT) in these three schools that opened three years ago. The KV in Berhampur is one of the oldest and biggest schools in the state with around 1,600 students up to Class XII. The school at Gopalpur has around 800 students till Class XII while the student strength in the rest three schools is around 350 having classes up to VIII. The Class XII students of KV Berhampur complained that they have face many problems in studies due to the absence of teachers, particularly in science subjects. "We have demanded posting of teachers several times but in vain," said G S Mohapatra, a parent. Collector (Ganjam) Krishna Kumar, who is chairman of the managing committee of KV, Berhampur, has written to the commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan for early posting of teachers. "We are managing classes by appointing teachers on a contractual basis," said principal of KV
