KXCI Radio is proud to present Swamp Blues legend Lazy Lester as part of their third annual House Rockin Blues Review at El Casino Ballroom. Lazy Lester performed at El Casino in the 80s as part of KXCIs original House Rockin series and now returns 25 years later as one of the true living blues legends. In the 50s he recorded such classics for Excello Records as I Hear You Knockin, Sugar Coated Love and Im A Lover Not A Fighter. Not only was he a major recording artist for the label he was also one of Excellos busiest studio musicians playing harmonica or guitar for several other artists including Slim Harpo, Tabby Thomas, Lightning Slim, and Katie Webster and many more. Lester went on to record with other notable blues labels such as Alligator Records out of Chicago and Antones Records out of Austin. He is still a regular headliner here in the United States and overseas in Europe. In 2004, he played at Radio City Music Hall in New York as part of Martin Scorseses Year of the Blues super concert that resulted in his Lightning In A Bottle documentary. The concert included what was perhaps the most impressive lineup of blues stars ever assembled. KXCI has also assembled an impressive line up for their annual House Rockin Blues Review on August 8th. Besides headliner Lazy Lester, the show will feature Dave Riley and Bob Corritore. The duo has recorded three critically acclaimed CDs and performed all over the world during the past 10 years. They will be backed by the Rhythm Room All-Stars whose members all have impressive backgrounds. From San Diego, guitarist Chris James and bassist Patrick Rynn are blues recording artists in their own right. The duo has three records out and has recorded with several other artists including Billy Boy Arnold, Sam Lay and Big Pete Pearson. Guitarist Johnny Rapp is in the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame and considered by many as perhaps the best blues guitarist out of Phoenix. Rounding out the All-Stars is drummer Brian Fahey from the band The Paladins. Included on the bill will be home town blues hero Tom Walbank and opening the show, also from Tucson, will be Michael P. and the Blue Star Band featuring Arizona Blues Hall of Famer Steve Grams. Tickets for the concert are $12 advance, $10 KXCI Members advance, $15 at the door night of show. Ticket outlets are KXCI, Antigone Books, The Folk Shop and The Parish. Doors open at 7pm and there will be food available for purchase by Allyn Haynes Catering for anyone wishing to come down early and eat.
