KY3 has posted my five part documentary produced in 2005 as a freelance video journalist about World War Two veterans returning to their battlefields of D-Day and the war in Europe. Among them is former Springfield City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem Ralph Manley. The sixteen veterans on this trip were among the first to land on the Normandy beaches and in France on D-Day, and they, like hundreds of thousands of other American G.I.s lost friends injured and dead in the fighting. As we mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the eventual Victory in Europe, VE Day, about a year later, we should pay tribute to our fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers who paid such a high price for so many years as their lives were disrupted by the Nazi and Hitler and the Japanese military forces. So many did not return, but those who came home arrived still emotionally and physically injured. This was among the most difficult and compelling stories to tell for me as a video journalist.
