Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 14th November 2014 D Baba OF South Africa ...Maha Vera.. Kalashtami is the term given to the eighth day of the dark half of every lunar month. This day is dedicated to the Kaal God, generally known as Kaal Bhairav. Kal Bhairava is another Avatar of Lord Shiva. Devotees of Kalbhairva Avatar of Lord Shiva observe fast and perform Puja on this day. Kalbhairav Jayanti is celebrated in all over India. As India follows lunar calendar, some regions of India use Poornimant calendar and some uses Amavasyant calendar. Poornimant is that lunar calendar which is considered from the full Moon night and ends at full Moon night. On the other hand, Amavasyant calendar is the one which starts from new Moon night and ends at same new Moon night. People of North India follows Purnimant Calendar, therefore they celebrate the main Kalashtami in the Margashira month. On the other hand, followers of Amavasyant calendar celebrate it in the month of Kartik. However, the Kalbhairav Jayanti falls on the same day for the both the calendar followers. Kala Bhairva Jayanti is also known as Bhairav Ashtami. Note: Fast of Kalashtami can be observed a day before Ashtami that is Saptami (the seventh day). According to the scripture Vratraj, fast of Kalashtami is observed as soon as the eighth day prevails at night just after the seventh day. Legend Behind Kaal Bhairava Jayanti The legend describes the tale of the day when Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma had an argument on the topic that who is the most powerful than each other. The argument rose to such a height that Lord Shiva had to call a meeting including the great scholars, sages and saints to find a solution and reach the conclusion. After the meeting came to a solution. Lord Vishnu agreed with the solution, however Lord Brahma did not accept it. This outraged Lord Shiva, as it was an insult to him and he took a destructive form. Hence, a new Avatar came into existence which was of Kaal Bhairav. In this Avatar, he came riding a black dog with a truncheon in one hand. That is why he also got the name of Dandadhipati. This horrifying form of Lord Shiva scared the demigods. Seeing this situation, Lord Brahma apologized in front of Kaal Bhairav Avatar of Lord Shiva realizing his mistake. After being convinced by all the Gods, saints, sages and Lord Brahma himself, Lord Shiva restored to his original form and calmed down. Kal Bhairav Jayanti Pooja Vidhi It is believed that worshipping Kaal Bhiarav Avatar of Lord Shiva will full faith enchants the Almighty and blesses the devotee with ultimate boon. An all night vigil is observed by the devotees to worship Lord Shiva entire night. This begins from the time when eighth day prevails. The Avatar of Kaal Bhairava is worhshipped along with Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati. Kaalbhairav Katha (The Holy Tale) is the most important thing to recite during the Puja. Devotees should perform Bhairva Aarti at midnight along with musical instruments like drum, conch and gong, to name a few. As Lord Bairava rides on a black dog, therefore feeding a black dog enchants the Almighty. Early morning, take bath in a Holy river or any other water body. After that, perform Shradh or Tarpan followed by the Puja of Lord Bhairo Nath. Worshipping Lord Bhairav makes one get rid of sufferings and pains, especially the troubles related to paranormal world. One gets free from the troubles related to ghosts as well as evil spirits. The devotee cherishes all round success and a healthy life free from any sort of diseases.
