Kabimba Addresses the Post Newsroom Zambia’s largest private - TopicsExpress

Kabimba Addresses the Post Newsroom Zambia’s largest private newspaper has long been viewed as a government-loyal outlet, but the relationship between Fred M’membe’s Post Newspaper and the ruling Patriotic Front party took a step further yesterday when the party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba made a visit to the newsroom. Coming only hours after President Michael Sata took the time to appear in court in a defamation case relating to a contentious legal matter involving both M’membe and Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito, Kabimba delivered a lecture to Post reporters on the Patriotic Front’s strategy, laying out a “guide” for reporters to follow in their daily coverage of the government’s performance. Kabimba, who was introduced by M’membe himself, urged the reporters to be strong and acquaint themselves with the PF manifesto. The outright political overtones were said to make many reporters uncomfortable with the ethics of the situation. The Post Newspaper campaigned for the Patriotic Front in the 2011 elections with most of its staff and editors rewarded with positions upon the PF taking office. Since the election, M’membe has continued to be seen as a praise singer for the PF. Most recently, the newspaper has been waging a campaign to disparage calls by civil society for a people-driven constitution in line with PF stance that has now rubbished the fight for a new constitution. zambiareports/2014/05/22/kabimba-addresses-post-newsroom/
