Kaizer Chiefs are currently ranked as the sixth best team in Africa according to FootballDatabase, and are South Africa’s best team at present. The ranking system, which works similarly to the system used by FIFA to calculate the ranking of the world’s national teams, has Chiefs down as CAF’s sixth best team following their impressive start to the season. CAF’s Top 10: 1. TP Mazembe – DRC 2. Al-Merreikh – Sudan 3. AS Vita – DRC 4. Raja Casablanca – Morocco 5. Al Hilal Omdurman – Sudan 6. Kaizer Chiefs – South Africa 7. Esperance – Tunisia 8. Cotonsport – Cameroon 9. Etoile du Sahel – Tunisia 10. Dynamos – Zimbabwe South Africa’s second highest ranked club is Mamelodi Sundowns, who are in 12th place, while Orlando Pirates rank slightly lower down in 20th. Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, the club’s chairman expressed his delight at the ranking. He said, “It’s encouraging to see Football Database tracking and documenting the performances of clubs on the African continent. So going forward one can compare our standard with other countries as well. The ranking also shows the great start our club has had at the start of the PSL season.”
