Kaleb was released from the hospital yesterday. We are so glad to be back at our place. So, hes been having some pretty bad complications from the radiation. His treatments are directly to the neck and its causing his throat to be incredibly raw. It hurts for him to swallow and talk. He spits up blood occasionally. The biggest concern is him getting enough nutrition. He doesnt like to eat because of the pain. One option is for him to get a G-tube; a gastrointestinal tube that goes in his nose to his stomach. I will be able to feed him and administer meds through it. Well talk to his doctor tomorrow and make a decision about that. The radiation is also making him incredibly tired. I remember being exhausted when I went through radiation so its something I was expecting. Next week is chemo #9. The best news is after hes completed radiation and is out of his post-chemo red zone we are going home!! He will do the remaining 5 chemo rounds at Doernbechers Childrens Hospital in Portland. We are so homesick. Being here, just the two of us, has been challenging but I wouldnt trade it for the world. Kaleb and I have grown incredibly close. Hes convinced I can read his mind. Sometimes I actually can but I dont tell him.
