Kampala- Buganda Kingdom has unveiled a two–week programme of activities to mark the Kabaka’s 20th coronation anniversary which will climax with the actual cerebrations on August 3 at the Mengo Palace. The activities start with a massive cleaning exercise of the Kabaka’s lake in Ndeeba, a city suburb, on July 19-20 and the Kabaka is expected to take part, according Mengo tourism minister Ritah Namyalo. Ms Namyalo said at the weekend that due to the significance of Kabaka’s coronation fete, the annual Buganda Tourism Expo, which takes place in the last week of June, was this year delayed to coincide with the event. Some of the activities include a week-long exhibition starting on July 29 at Lubiri, display of wild animals, a simulation of the Kabaka’s coronation ceremonies at Naggalabi and a week-long boat regatta at Kabaka’s lake. Another event will be the reopening of the royal mile commonly known as the Kabaka Anjagala Road.
