Kandil bids farewell to Deniz Fırat ANF - KANDİL 09.08.2014 15:30:30 The body of Deniz Fırat (Leyla Yıldızhan), a Kurdish journalist who died in Makhmour camp, has been sent off to North Kurdistan following a ceremony in Kandil. Deniz lost her life as a result of mortar fire in clashes that broke out in the Makhmour camp between the HPG and YJA STAR guerrillas and the ISIS gangs. The body of the journalist Deniz Fırat was brought to the Media Defence Zones in a convoy of dozens of vehicles on 8 August from the city of Hewler (Erbil) in South Kurdistan. Her body was taken this morning again in a convoy to the Mehmet Karasungur Martyrs Cemetery in Kandil. A military ceremony was held there with the participation of people, guerrillas and the friends of Deniz. The ceremony was attended by KCK co-president Bese Hozat, KCK Co-presidency Council members Ali Haydar Kaytan, Sozdar Avesta, KCK Executive Council members Mustafa Karasu, Fatma Adir, Zeki Sengali, YJA coordination members Leyla Agiri, Berfin Serhat as well as HPG and YJA STAR commanders. Speaking at the ceremony, KCK Co-presidency Council member Sozdar Avesta offered condolences to Deniz’s family and to members of the free press and called on the members of the press to lead the process with their cameras and pens. Commemorating all the martyrs of Kurdistan in the name of Deniz, Avesta said Deniz was a child of a family forced to migrate because of the genocide policies pursued by the Turkish state against the Kurdish people, adding that her family put a lot of labour into the movement. Avesta said two sisters of Deniz had also lost their lives in this struggle. “Makhmour people are struggling for twenty years and have always defeated attacks against this struggle and unity” added Avesta. Avesta said the recent attacks aiming at dispersing their organized power and political identities will not discourage the people of Makhmour. Avesta further said: “A new genocide policy is being implemented on the Kurdish people. There is a war going on in Rojava, Sinjar and Makhmour. I call on all the Kurdish people in all 4 parts of Kurdistan; this is the time to strengthen unity. We have to be united and resist in order to break down this assault on Kurdistan. It is time for the unity of the Kurds. Kurdish unity is being established at the war fronts at the moment”. Avesta stressed that they will defend all Kurdistan, Rojava, Sinjar, Makmour or Kirkuk, wherever it proves necessary, adding that the members of the free press must lead the process with their cameras and pens. Deniz’s mother also attended the ceremony in Kandil and said “All the guerrillas are the children of my family as the family of martyr Deniz. We have put everything into this struggle. We left our house 25 years ago, but I have lived everywhere with the guerrillas. I am and will remain loyal to the guerrillas”. YNK official Loqman Wardi also made a speech at the ceremony. Wardi said: “I offer condolences on behalf of my friends to Deniz’s family and friends. The unity of the Kurdish people in North, South or Makhmour has proven to be an utmost necessity. The peshmerga, the guerrillas and the people must get together in unity to defeat the hostile plans against the Kurdish people. I call on all the Kurdish people; we must come together for Deniz and all the Kurdish martyrs. We must come together for the defence of Kurdistan”. Following the ceremony, the body of Deniz Firat was sent to Van, where she will be buried.
