[Kang Gary interview in Singapore by MeRadio} Back in Singapore for his first solo showcase featuring Jung-In, rapper and Running Man star Kang Gary took time out of his whirlwind schedule for an exclusive interview with MeRadio.sg, where he opened up about love and his collaborations with Jung-In and Song Ji-Hyo. Call him Mr. Romantic It seems that Gary is quite the romantic. His Instagram profile description reads “浪漫主义者” in Chinese (which means “romantic idealist” in English). When quizzed if that describes his views on love, he explained, “I am not saying that I am a romantic, but it is something that I aspire to be because I am doing a lot of music production, and music production requires one to be highly emotional. I want to be free. I am not really saying that I am a complete romantic, but rather I want to get into the emotions.” Unfortunately, it seems like he has no time to date and is pretty wary when it comes to displaying affection—probably because of his fame. In fact, he stated that he would “probably leave it now as 7” when asked on how romantic he rates himself. “To be a 10 I need to be an extremely free person. Also, because I am somebody who is popular, I have to be careful. The more people actually like me and know me, the more I have to be careful in my thoughts and actions.” Gary went on to describe himself as “halyang”, which according to him is a word that is listed in the Korean dictionary as “playboy”, but its actual translation really is more along the lines of “romanticist”. “If you look at the olden days of Korea—because in Korean dynasty they had different types of corporate structures—they had what you call the Yangban family. The family was more educated, yet they enjoyed poems and music. This is someone who is more open to enjoying his life, rather than just being stuck to certain things that he has to do. It is something that I am aiming to be,” he mused. Mondays are reserved for Song Ji-Hyo It is hard not to discuss the topic of his Running Man co-star Song Ji-Hyo when speaking with Gary. After all, the duo was dubbed as the famed ‘Monday Couple’ on the hit variety series and had garnered a sizeable fan-base because of the pairing. While many fans wonder if the lyrics ‘If you want, you can be a couple with me except on Mondays’ on his track ‘Mr. Gae’ refer to his relationship with Ji-Hyo, he revealed that the reference was mainly just a fun idea to incorporate into the lyrics of the song, and not really an allusion to Running Man. Gary also shared that he enjoyed his cameo appearance on drama Emergency Couple, while female lead Ji-Hyo rated his performance a 10/10, Gary prefers to stick to music for the time being. “I’m not a professional actor...and as I have been working with Ji Hyo for more than four years, she actually let me know that I got through my cameo in Emergency Couple without a lot of NGs (no-good cuts).” Having recently collaborated with Jung-In on a duet ‘Your Scent’, the 36-year-old quipped that he has a heightened sense of smell and his favourite scents are those that “come together with the wind”, such as shampoo, soap, or body lotion—nothing too overpowering He want to share a kiss with Rebecca Lim We decided to quiz Gary and showed him pictures of six local female celebrities—Jeanette Aw, Olivia Ong, Rebecca Lim, Rui En, Stefanie sun, and Y.E.S. 93.3FM DJ Lin Peifen—and asked to pick who he would like to share a screen kiss with. He was very quick to pick Rebecca Lim almost immediately after seeing her picture. “I like somebody who looks very innocent. Based on the pictures, she is the one who fits my taste the most.” He apologised, saying he did not know who any of the celebrities were, but cheekily added, “I would like to get to know them more, especially Rebecca!” Having been to Singapore a few times, Gary had already picked up the Singlish term “so shiok!” which he repeatedly used throughout this interview. He gushed about his recent first meal at Lau Pa Sat, saying that it was, you guessed it, “so shiok!” “I ate 20 sticks of satay. I mixed the peanut sauce and sambal sauce together and I really liked it. And the lady at [the] stall spoke really good Korean so I was impressed.” Admin Eddie~~
