Karen Kay Reeves,age 68 of Carrier Mills, affectionately known to many as Boo, passed away peacefully 9:05 p.m. Tuesday,April 1, 2014,in the Deaconess Hospice Center in Evansville,Ind.,with her loving family at her side. She was born in Chicago on April 23,1945,to the late Kenneth and Kathleen (Lewis) Hartford. Karen was married to Fred L. Whiting in 1963 and he preceded her in death in 1968. She later married Rodger Lee Reeves on Nov. 9, 1969,and he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2005. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills and was a very cherished,loving mother,grandmother, sister,aunt and friend. She is survived by sixchildren,Lonnie Lee Reeves of Belleville,Kenita Kay (Sam) Dudley of Stonefort,Pamela Kay Lewis (Paul) Treat of Carrier Mills,Penny Kay Reeves of Kansas City, Mo.,John Phillip (Jennifer) Whiting of Stonefort and Michelle Lee (Shawn Edward) Murphy of Carrier Mills. - She is survived by her adored grandchildren,Hannah Grace Dudley,Ethan Dudley,Madeline Dudley,Abel Dudley,Derrick (Emma) Lewis,Joshua Lewis,Quaide Treat, Casey Reeves,Ashton Whiting,Whitney Bonnell, Loren Whiting,Abigail Whiting,Madison Murphy and Morgan Murphy; great-granchildren, Mason,Landon,Bradlee and Ellie; three sisters, Susan (Doc) Douglas of Carrier Mills,Kathy (Fred) Bailey of Ocala,Fla.,and Margaret (Joe) Mitchell of Stonefort; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands,she was preceded in death by a daughter,Jennifer Whiting; great-grandchild,Kaylynn Jean Pickering; and a brother,David Hartford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday,April 5,2014,at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Jeff Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. For those who wish memorials in her memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
