Karim Benzema is ‘unwilling’ to leave Real Madrid for Arsenal - TopicsExpress

Karim Benzema is ‘unwilling’ to leave Real Madrid for Arsenal just yet. Reports have been circulating since yesterday that the French international, along with Angel Di Maria, has attracted interest from Arsenal who are prepared to spend over £40 million in the closing days of the transfer window. But, according to Madrid-based newspaper AS, the 25-year-old has revealed that he is ‘unwilling’ to make a switch to the Premier League and join Arsenal. The Gunners have already tasted defeat in the pursuit of another Madrid striker this summer after Gonzalo Higuain ended up a Napoli player following several weeks of talks claiming he was on the brink of an Arsenal move. But while Benzema may be skeptical about life at Arsenal, his counterpart Di Maria could be lured by Arsene Wenger whom he has expressed his admiration for in the past. Here were Di Maria’s words as a Benfica man in 2009: “I do not regret joining Benfica. But I am sure that Arsene Wenger would have had a lot to teach me.” On players that Arsenal actually have in the bag, Mathieu Flamini – who Arsene Wenger is now in talks to re-sign – could be one of them. The 29-year-old has been training with his old club this summer after declining a one-year contract renewal with AC Milan, five years after ditching the Gunners for Italy on a free transfer. And it should be through that same free transfer that Flamini will return to Arsenal as the club progresses in talks to complete a deal for the Frenchman by 12pm on Friday, allowing Flamini to be named in the squad to face Fulham. #AOC
