Karis had a really good day. She usually struggles going to school - TopicsExpress

Karis had a really good day. She usually struggles going to school each morning crying that she doesnt want to go and that she is going to miss me, but did great today. She wore an adorable headband that was made just for her and had the perfect outfit to go with it. She took her wig off last night because she said she missed her bald head. She really doesnt care that she is bald and I love her confidence! I am learning so much from this courageous soul. School went well and the girls had their religious ed class tonight. I help out in Karis class and its hard watching her struggle to keep up with the others in her class. Her writing and processing is so much slower, but she does not give up. I could see her getting frustrated when she was still on the the first answer and the class was on their third, but then I heard her saying to herself, I can do this. She did. Her teacher is great and very understanding always offering to slow down. I really appreciate that and I feel like I hover over her way too much. As hard as it is, I need to let her find her own way sometimes to see what she can do and for her to know she can. Its so hard to not try and protect her from everything. At one point during the class, I had to walk my niece to the bathroom and when we got back, there were three girls in the class over by Karis helping her. I teared up and just wanted to wrap these girls in a huge hug for not being afraid to reach out to help and encourage someone who really needed it. Karis had a huge smile on her face and it was great seeing her interact with her peers. I think they are all learning in class and know what it means to help thy neighbor. :) Karis older sister, Emerson, and her cousin, Karley, also try to help, but its harder for Karis to accept help from them. Im not sure why unless its because she feels more self conscious around them. Once class was over, the girls were excited to go see their cousin, Taylor, at Washburn to deliver her some goodies. We went grocery shopping the other day and the girls picked out a lot of their favorite things to give Taylor. They think her dorm is pretty cool. The girls had so much fun unpacking and showing everything to Taylor. Of course they left it all out for Taylor to put away. Lol. Just like home! :) We have a busy weekend coming up. Karis gets to do something really special this Friday and we havent even told her what it is exactly. We are going to Lees Summit West High Schools homecoming and Karis will be named the home coming princess! They will read her cancer story, which I tried to summarize, and give her a crown and flowers. Lexi, who was the princess last year, will get to give Karis the crown. It is going to be so sweet and special. Then we might just spend the night since we have the Camp Quality reunion on Saturday. Kyle and I are still working out the details because of school and dance obligations and it might be another time we have to split things up. Then Sunday is the golf tournament! We are really looking forward to meeting everyone who is coming out to support our family and especially Karis. My nephew, Derek, has a team and has high hopes to make a hole in one to win the Harley Davidson Sportster! Hes been practicing and I wish him lots of good luck! Karis is excited to ride around in the golf cart. Sometimes its all about the little things. If you dont have anything planned Sunday afternoon, please stop by the Shawnee Country Club between 12-6. There are more than 45 baskets/items for the silent auction and about 17 items for the raffle! There was a lot of hard work and generosity that went into all this so I sure hope we can get lots of people to stop by. Even if its just to say hi to Karis. :) Please tell all your family and friends! Matthew 13:31-32 He told them another parable; “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.
