Karla Kay Toothaker Kneebone, 72, of Neodesha KS passed away on December 27, 2014 at Via Christ-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita KS following a brief illness. Karla was the youngest child of Carl and Isla Toothaker born on November 17, 1942 in Westmoreland, KS. She grew up in the Wheaton and Westmoreland area and graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1960. Karla attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. On June 28, 1964 in Westmoreland, KS she married Ken Kneebone and they raised one son, Kelly. Karla served as the Director of Pharmacy of the Wilson County Hospital for over 29 years retiring in 2012. She also worked at Porter Drug and Walmart Pharmacy. In 1995 she was appointed a member of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy and also served as their President. Karla was a proud member of the Neodesha PEO and a devoted member and organist of the Episcopal Church in Neodesha, KS. She was a doting mother and grandmother being a cub scout leader and room mother when Kelly was young. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She was a fabulous pianist, amazing cook and lover of pets. Karla woke up every day thinking of what she could do for someone else and she did it. She cherished every moment with her family celebrating birthdays, graduations, weddings and just every day events. Karla leaves behind her son Kelly and wife Jacque of Lenexa; grandchildren Max, Jamie and Gabby, Lenexa, KS; brother Norman Toothaker and partner Jarvis Cummings; sister Arletta Figge and husband Fred; all of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law Billie and husband Pat of Neodesha, KS; nephews Bryan and wife Sheri of Westfield, IN; Kevin and wife Renee of Flower Mound, TX; Alan and wife Jennifer of League City, TX; Michael and wife Karen of Neodesha, KS; nieces Kimberly and husband Chris of Coppelll, TX; Anne Porter of Louisville, KY. She also leaves behind many other family members and numerous close friends. Karla will be missed but will be remembered for her strength of character, loving and caring nature and determination. Karla was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Isla Toothaker and her grandson Tanner Kneebone. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 3pm at Christ Church in Neodesha, KS. Afterwards, coffee/drinks along with dessert will be served. We request that you dress in your most colorful party/dress clothes as this is what Karla would love. The family has requested memorials go to Wilson County Hospital Foundation in her memory.
