Katarina update: our sweet girl has been stable and has had no - TopicsExpress

Katarina update: our sweet girl has been stable and has had no further decline since being admitted. She still can walk (though her rear legs are weaker than normal) and while her anal tone is not good she still has some tone. She has just been released for home care. Her doctor at Penn (who was absolutely wonderful) recommends that she stay in a crate to keep her from jumping. She needs crate rest for 4-6 weeks (assuming this is a disc issue that stabilizes and not cancer). We a neurologist appointment on Monday and we will try to run additional tests depending on their cost. Katarinas care this week has been very costly and Matt and I are thinking very carefully about next steps. We want to give Katarina the best possible quality of life possible but were not sure whether its humane to put her through spinal surgery which might not even work. I wish cost wasnt a factor but sadly it is given the debt weve taken on with our new house. I deeply regret not having pet insurance and plan on getting insurance for my other two cats as soon as life gets a bit quieter. In the meantime, Im ethically and professionally wrestling with how to best raise funds for Katarinas care since any advanced imaging and additional tests like a spinal tap will cost thousands of dollars. A very kind and generous collector made a purchase earlier this week that has helped considerably but we are still short significantly if we pursue advanced care for Katarina. Im exploring a possible affordable print sale combined with possibly a Give Forward campaign. There are so many crowdsourced campaigns that I am weary of going this route because I know so many people in my community are already inundated with donation requests. I welcome any advice or suggestions you have. Thank you again for your kind support this week! xo
