Kathryn May congratulations on finishing all your high school requirements yesterday. You took the hardest classes offered your first two years of high school including AP Physics and AP Calculus and still ranked first in your class. Remarkable accomplishment. Two years ago you took a big chance. You left the safe path to go off to the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities to give yourself the most challenging academic program available. I am so very, very proud of you for following your dream. The path had some unexpected turns but you gained valuable insight. You’ve showed remarkable fortitude and optimism in facing chronic health challenges. Tomorrow you will graduate and I have no doubt that it is more than a little disappointing that you only got the one year. You sacrificed many things for the opportunity. But it was a great year in your quest for knowledge. I know you will not let your health define your future any more than Stephen Hawking. Boiler up and keep dreaming big!
