Katy Willings (derby chief) OPs Rom Day 7 MD14: Right tweeters/fbookers ect sorry for silence things got more than slightly hectic. Apologies for all the offended armchair followers who think the Derby is unfair or letting the leaders down. It is jolly unfair to get held on course in any sporting event but this is part of the Mongol in Mongol Derby. If a horse needs treatment between stations, or a rider hits HELP, we go and respond at the scene. Emergency assistance MUST take precedence over the day to day duties of checking riders in and out of stations. How could we possibly defend this event as a responsible enterprise if we put rider positions ABOVE horse welfare and rider safety. You rather rudely describe the rear of the field as the stragglers but you have little idea of what they are handling out there and how fast they are riding, too. SO- please bear with us, we all want everyone to get round, enjoy it, have the right amount of supportand a defensible degree of emergency back up. Go and e-watch a triathlon if you want a fair contest above all else. Ta.
