Kausarnag Pilgrimage: Politicisation of religious tourism kashmirtimes.in/newsdet.aspx?q=34986 The current dispensation, the Modi government, which identifies itself with Israel, is looking at the Zionist state as its role model. Israel managed to attract its people to come and live in Jerusalem and India is following the suit. The only difference being that Israel attracted its citizens by setting up research laboratories and Universities and India is doing so using Hinduism, as it knows what would attract its lower-middle-class Hindus. The pilgrimage is affordable and even a small percentage of its mammoth population would be a majority in Kashmir, if its somehow made to stay in Kashmir, on one pretext or the other. And this is very dangerous. Interestingly, apart from the multiplication of the number of Yatris and the lengthening of their stay, another dimension has been added to this cultural onslaught - surge in the number of destinations to be worshiped. This multidimensional and multi-pronged approach is to cater to the agenda of including whole Kashmir from North to South and East to West into the Yatra map. And it seems quite evident as Kausar nag, one of the highest altitude springs of Kashmir, some 30 kms trek from Aharbal in district Shopian, has been announced as yet another 6-days Holy destination for Yatris, commencing July 28th, with active support of the Army which is creating the tented accommodation, throughout the route.
