Kayapo Indians are prevented from entering the Congress State Agency Posted: 20/06/2013 12:31 Updated: 20/06/2013 12:36 Brasilia - A group of about 50 Kayapo Indians was prevented from entering on the morning of Thursday, the National Congress. He would accompany a committee hearing in the House of Representatives that deals with the demarcation of indigenous lands. Due to the expectation of a large demonstration today in Brasilia, parliamentary security strengthened policing in the main entrance building. After negotiation with the members of the Committee, it was decided that only ten representatives of the group could enter, provided they were not with ropes or any instrument that could be considered a weapon. At this time, parliamentarians discuss a report produced between 1962 and 1967 dealing information on torture, extermination of Indians and appropriation of indigenous lands. According to a spokesperson of the parliamentary National Indian Foundation (FUNAI), the report explains the focus of the current agrarian conflicts in the North and Midwest regions of the country.
