Kazakhstan curbs foreign self-employed entrepreneurs Kazakhstan has imposed restrictions on activity of foreign self-employed entrepreneurs on its territory. According to the Law on Private Entrepreneurship, foreign citizens are not allowed to register and work as self-employed entrepreneurs on the territory of Kazakhstan, except citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Belarus, according to the agreement on legal status of citizens who permanently reside in another country (signed on April 28, 1998). The Kazakh government has abolished temporary licenses in January 2013 and introduced new rules, among which is compulsory registration as a self-employed entrepreneur. Illegal businessmen are liable for administrative punishment - confiscation of goods and penalty to the amount of about 2.15 thousand US dollars.
