Keep Separate Desks For Creative and Regular Work ift.tt/1ntwyxa When you need to get your creative juices flowing, its best if you move away from your regular work spot. In fact, the Buffer blog suggests having a second messy desk just for your creative pursuits. The blog post talks about John Cleeses analogy that the creative brain is like a tortoise, which peeks its head out first to check if the environment is conducive and goes back in if its not. The normal stress associated with your regular workspace isnt ideal for that. Removing yourself from your normal work environment—i.e. your busy space—to a free, creative space sends a signal to your brain. And if you do this consistently, your tortoise brain will learn to recognize the place as a safety zone for creative thinking. A recent study by The University Of Minnesota says disorder leads to more creativity , so Buffer leverages on that to suggest having that second messy desk will be beneficial. Of course, it doesnt have to be a desk, it could be any place where chaos reigns supreme.
